Well, folks, the regulation of the herbal industry that we have seen looming for the last 25 years is finally upon us.  For Radical Remedies this means that since the end of 2005, it has been illegal for us to market our herbal remedies to the general public because we cannot conform to standardized extract specifications according to new FDA regulations. (And frankly, we wouldn’t even if we could, because -- call us radical! -- we find the notion of a “standardized extract” completely alienated from the concept of using whole herbs as medicine.) 

The new regs pretty much force all of the folk healers and small business operators who can’t or won’t standardize off the commercial highway in herbal healthcare.  A few big herb companies will survive, probably eventually owned by huge drug companies, and western medicine takes one more giant step towards homogenization and external control of personal healthcare.

Now is the time for everyone to take stock of what grows in your garden, and to sow seeds for making your own remedies.  We still believe that reclaiming the herbs for ourselves is the only way around government regulation in the long run.  It is our our responsibility and our privilege -- our birthright -- to nurture and be nurtured by the Green Nations.

Although it saddens us to remove our herbal preparations from this website, and to quit selling them commercially, we will continue to make and use Radical Remedies for ourselves and our families, friends, and companion animals, as well as for personal clients  and teaching workshops.  And of course we will continue spread weeds and the radical word wherever we go.

Despite the FDA, all of us still have the right to choose to grow and use herbs for personal wellbeing.  So...as we say in all of our books, "There's a garden in every one...
